Once again we had a fantastic turnout from parents to celebrate our MacMillan coffee morning on the 29th of September. We had a wonderful morning with our parents chatting over cups of tea, while both mums and dads enjoyed home made cakes along with the children! It was a fantastic morning enjoyed by all! Yet again, there was stiff competition between the ladies as to who would be the star baker, and this year the winner was Lucy Watts in the Totts room with her pigs swimming in a chocolate cake! Well done Lucy! We had lots of fun, and raised a fantastic £86! A big thank you and well done to all who attended!
Thursday the 13th of September was the birthday of the creator of Fantastic Mr Fox, Roald Dahl! The children in Cheltenham thoroughly enjoyed celebrating this by listening to stories read by the wonderful ladies at nursery, and by dressing up in their nursery made Fantastic Mr Fox masks to visit the residents at Sandfields residential home. Whilst here, they enjoyed listening to stories read by the residents, by doing some colouring in and sharing some fruit… even a peach or two. Everyone had a superb day!
The Little Pips in Cheltenham spent the day talking about their Summer trips and the holidays that they had been on. Some of the children had been camping and told everyone how they had had marshmallows around the camp fire. Some of our children hadn’t done this before, so Natalie our manager decided to set up camp and toast the marshmallows! Lots of sticky hands, but lots and lots of fun!
It was an exciting month at both nurseries with all the staff and children preparing for Christmas! We started our festivities with a fun filled Christmas craft afternoon at both nurseries, which saw the community come together whilst all the children had fun doing some Christmas crafts. Chippenham held a raffle which collected £30 towards a food parcel for the homeless which was a fantastic result. Cheltenham held a raffle which raised £274 for “4 Louis”, which was also fantastic! Chippenham then held a nativity production with lots of stars from our 2 to 4 year olds all doing a wonderful job for our parents and our good friends from Avon Court care home, and Cheltenham showcased their production to all the excited parents! Our final week before Christmas saw us have two Christmas dinners and a Christmas party at both nurseries. With a very special visit from Santa’s good friend Mrs Elf in Chippenham, and Father Christmas in Cheltenham!
On Friday the 17th of November, the children in Cheltenham visited Sandfields Care home where they spent a wonderful morning playing games with the residents, doing some colouring in, and chatting to them while eating homemade biscuits. All the staff and the children dressed up in their pyjamas and made a wonderful effort, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves! In Chippenham the children all dressed up either their spots, pyjamas or as Pudsey Bear. Lisa our cook did some surprise carrot cakes at lunch time, with Pudsey as the star! All the children loved coming in in their pyjamas, and had lots of fun playing games. We raised a wonderful £43.82! Well done everyone!
The children from Little Pips in Chippenham, and Little Pips in Cheltenham, spent the week making beautiful red and black hand-prints to form our super Poppy wreaths for Remembrance Day. We all talked about how the wreaths would be laid at the Cenotaphs in the town centres to remember our heroes. On Friday, a small group of our children walked into the towns to lay them down and to see all the other tributes, it was a day to remember for all involved.
On Wednesday the 13th of November, the children from Little Pips Nursery on Lowden Avenue had some very special little visitors! Kim Goodridge a hedgehog rescuer, bought along 3 baby hedgehogs that she had rescued. The children learned that when the hedgehogs were babies, they were initially fed baby rice with goats’ milk, before eventually moving on to kitten food. They also learned about the hedgehogs’ homes, and how they make them. She also mentioned that if you are lucky enough to have these very special little visitors to your garden, you can buy a specialist hedgehog food from Wilkinsons. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and the best bit was that they got to put their mittens on to hold them… So lucky!
Friday the 29th September saw Little Pips Nursery on Lowden Avenue hold their annual “Big Coffee Morning” for Macmillan. The staff and children came together to bake cakes and biscuits to go along with tea and coffee, with Shannon Green from the Preschool room being named “star baker” for the second year on the trot! Many of our parents came along and joined us making generous donations to a worthy cause. Those who couldn’t make the coffee morning bought cakes to take away, and lots of cake and coffee were consumed during the event. We also ran the “Guess the Height of the Cake” sweepstake, which was won by Dylan Russell, congratulations to him! We are proud to say that we made over £120 for Macmillan. A big thank you, and well done to everyone!
Our graduates have had a very busy session today building up their finger control using tweezers. This fun activity helped our little pips to strengthen their pincer and tripod grips in readiness for pencil control. The children giggled their way through a pom pom challenge, working in teams to try and move as many pom poms as possible onto the letter shapes. There were a few stray ones but I think everyone will agree that they did very well. Claire was working with the children as well today and was extremely impressed with their recognition of the a,b,c sounds as well as their hand control. Well done everyone!
