Activities

Working with our community is an important part of our nursery ethos. We work closely with our local care homes and charities, supporting them through visits, collections and donations.

What are we learning?

Real life experiences and Active learning

Our curriculum is built on the two main principles of Interactions and Independence, delivered through Play, Exploration, and Experiences. We offer rich content inclusive of our children’s interests, engaging real-life experiences, and topics focused on celebrations, seasons, themes, and events. This also includes spontaneous occurrences such as snowy days, exciting memories, or precious finds at the seaside.

Our aim is to ensure all of our little pips are Next Step Ready when they leave us for the next stage of their journey, confident in communicating positively with others and independent in their daily routines and play.

Our strong belief in rich learning experiences runs throughout our curriculum. This is reflected in opportunities such as:

  • ‘Living Eggs,’ where children witness the lifecycle of a chick.

  • Tadpoles to frogs, caterpillars to butterflies, and hedgehog interaction sessions.

  • Live dancing experiences, including Morris Dancers.

  • Visits from community helpers like the police and fire officers.

  • Local learning walks for older children, including trips to the fire station, park, train station, library, and more.

This is in addition to the wonderful activities planned by our amazing staff team.

Communication is Key!

Building strong communication skills from birth to school

Strong emphasis is placed on the development of communication and language skills at Little Pips and this runs through every room from our youngest to our oldest little pips. This includes:

The Graduate Sessions are a unique part of Little Pips Nursery and ensure our children have the best possible start to their school life. As well as preparing our children with confidence building, and independence e.g. dressing independently and social skills, our oldest children take part in a fun daily 20-minute activity focussing on phonics, mark making (writing), and maths. These exciting sessions have been running for over 10 years and their success can be measured in the immensely positive feedback that we receive from schools, parents and of course our children
